Mark Phillips b. abt 1752 in ? maybe Cumberland County, NC? (Moore Co wasn't created till 1754 out of Cumberland Co.) The exact place of birth is unknown, but it probably was in the same general area. Unproven, but it appears that Mark Phillips d. and is buried in Moore Co., the last accounting of his where abouts was in 1837, which places him in Moore Co., 2 years before his death.

In 1820 was living in Moore County, NC and was married to a Rany (or Raney) unknown, b. abt 1753 in ?
Further research reveals that Mark Phillips might have married a Raney Moore or Rany Moore, this is unproven. The clue to the birth of Cornelius Dowd, who testified on Mark Phillips behalf several times, claims he (Cornelius Dowd) was b. 6 or 7 miles from Mark Phillips and has lived 2 1/2 miles from Mark Phillips for the past 40 years. This was stated in 1837 which would indicate that Mark Phillips was a long time resident of Moore Co., NC.
His 2 known daughters in 1820 according to his Rev War Pension App:
Polly Phillips b. abt 1799 in Moore County, NC
Rany Phillips Jr b. abt 1803 in Moore County, NC
Mark Phillips also noted his wife, Rany Phillips in his pension application.
In 1837, Cornelius Dowd claims to have known Mark Phillips before, during and after the Revolutionary War. He placed Mark Phillips as still a resident of Moore Co., NC
Mark Phillips and Raney had sons, even though they were not mentioned in his Rev War Pension Application. 3 males living in Mark Phillips's household can be found in the various 1790, 1800 and 1810 censuses of Moore Co., NC. More research has turned up the following 3 sons:
1. Eli Phillips (lived and died in Moore Co., NC)
2. John D. Phillips who m. Mary Dowd. (moved to Mississippi abt 1844)
3. Benjamin Phillips (lived and died in Moore Co., NC)
