Thomas Phillips III is believed to be the son of Thomas Phillips II, who d. 1792 in Craven County, North Carolina. DNA testing proves that Thomas was indeed related to Thomas Phillips I, d. 1743, but the actual record evidence is still being sought. This family is part of the Phillips DNA Family Group 5.
Thomas married Hannah Weatherington(abt 1762 - after 1852) in the April of 1785 in Lenoir County. It is believed that she was the daughter of Cleverly Weatherington, as Cleverly and Thomas Phillip II lived next door to each other. This fact was stated in Hannah's application for a Pension as the widow of a Revolutionary War Veteran. In the file she claims to have known Thomas before the War and her parents and his were near neighbors.
